To me, sketching is a lot like fishing. You throw out some lines hoping to scatch something worth mounting on your wall. Even when I was in college we used to carry our drawing tools around in fishing tackle boxes. The bait that seems to work best for me is classical music. (There is something about a "string" instrument that lures me into a sketching mood.) I also like to vary the weight of my lines (5 lbs., 15 lbs., 30 lbs., etc.) testing the effects of each. To those who are patient and willing to be persistent, a keeper is waiting to be drawn out of that smooth clear surface of the pages in a sketchbook. I guess it's no surprise that, instead of being called Bob, I have occasionally been called "Bobber".
Before our son got his drivers license, I had the privilege of taking him to his Bass guitar lessons. I selfishly brought
my sketchbook along in the hopes of 'scatching a keeper'. This sketch was a keeper. I sure do miss those days
when I had to take Jonathan to his lessons.
